Macmillan Chooses AppDynamics to Monitor Windows Azure Apps

Macmillan, a global trade publisher that also provides online course materials to students worldwide, moved its complex .NET applications to Microsoft Windows Azure to achieve global scale. Because Azure’s native monitoring was too high-level to pinpoint whether slowdowns were in the app, network, or specific services, Macmillan needed an APM solution to identify performance bottlenecks across distributed services.

Macmillan deployed AppDynamics on Azure and quickly uncovered a costly database query and other service issues. AppDynamics was easy to install, cut mean time to repair from weeks to hours, reduced third-party call times from 10–15 seconds to 2–3 seconds, and now supports ongoing performance optimization and capacity planning—improving the end-user experience for students.
