Gent University selects AppDynamics to optimize online resources

Ghent University (UGent), a major Dutch-speaking university in Belgium with 41,000 students, relied on an online tool for student records but faced slow report generation caused by an excessive number of database calls and lacked a unified way to monitor multiple Java Virtual Machines (JVMs) to diagnose performance bottlenecks.

UGent selected AppDynamics for its distributed transaction tracing and cross‑JVM visibility, easy installation, and usability. After deployment, report generation times dropped from 8–16 seconds under load to about 400 milliseconds with 100 users, and the internal team now independently manages the APM solution, improving application availability, scalability, and performance.
