The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee’s web development team needed to deliver a full-featured student mobile app for both iPhone and Android without rebuilding twice or abandoning their JavaScript and back-end investments. They wanted a simultaneous multi-platform approach that could integrate existing systems like PeopleSoft and provide real-time campus services.

UWM chose Appcelerator Titanium, reusing 97% of code across iOS and Android and cutting development costs to roughly 20% of the original estimate (about 80% under budget). The UWM Mobile app—built January–July and launched in production before classes—offers course schedules, GPS class maps, real-time shuttle, laundry and lab availability, campus events and directory search; it exceeded 5,000 downloads in the first two weeks and prompted plans for a Titanium-centered mobile development course.
