Merlin Entertainment's Mobile "App Factory" Delivers 12 apps in 6 Months Creating 40% Savings Per App

Merlin Entertainment, the world’s second-largest destination entertainment company (72 attractions including LEGOLAND, Thorpe Park, Alton Towers and Madame Tussauds), wanted to use mobile to deepen guest engagement, extend visit length, and drive in-park revenue. The challenge was to deliver immersive, media-rich native apps across multiple parks and platforms quickly and affordably while retaining centralized control of content and messaging.

Merlin partnered with DOGFI.SH Mobile and used Appcelerator Titanium to build a reusable native framework with maps, augmented reality and a cloud CMS. The approach enabled rapid cross‑platform releases—12 Merlin apps in six months—with 85% code reuse and about 40% cost savings per app, boosting downloads (350,000+ in the past year), social buzz and multi-day park attendance.
