GameStop, the world’s largest multichannel video game retailer, wanted to strengthen its PowerUp Rewards loyalty program by improving the mobile experience: unifying multi-channel interactions, increasing touch points through product info, points and store locations, and boosting awareness and use of promotions, mobile purchasing, and in-store pickup.
Using Appcelerator Titanium, GameStop built a mobile app that leveraged JavaScript for fast development and roughly 90% code reuse across iOS and Android, combining in‑house and Appcelerator teams and adding features like barcode/QR scanning and analytics. The app drove measurable results—PickUp@Store usage grew 150% in 2011 and supported over 550,000 customer requests—while delivering higher conversion than the mobile website and faster time-to-market.
