Mimiboard, created by Umuntu Media, needed a scalable, low-cost way to launch a virtual message board that could handle rapid growth across Africa without the burden of buying and maintaining servers. The team also wanted an agile platform that would let developers refine the service easily as it evolved.

Apigee provided the solution by using Google App Engine features such as scalable Cloud Datastore, Federated Login/OpenID Connect, and Maps/Geolocation APIs to build and run Mimiboard. The result was a fast launch, intuitive monitoring through a web-based dashboard, and strong early traction: Mimiboard won the 2012 Open Innovation Africa app demo contest, gained 10,000 users in its first month, and has saved Umuntu Media thousands of dollars per year.
