BPAY Group, Australia’s leading electronic bill payment provider, wanted to reduce friction in its batch-based payment processes and create easier ways for billers, banks, and new digital banking partners to work in real time. The company also needed a scalable API platform to support customer-facing APIs and a better developer experience. It chose Apigee API Management Platform to replace its home-grown approach.

Apigee helped BPAY Group launch a self-service developer portal and roll out its first APIs, giving customers tools to validate payment data before submitting batch files and generate correctly formatted files for different banks. The results included 104 sandbox developers and 10 production developers in the first month, plus new business opportunities with BNPL providers and NoahPay. Apigee also set BPAY Group up for future API monetization and reporting, supporting growth without adding extra support staff.
