Case Study: Chilean Health Ministry achieves nationwide healthcare connectivity and interoperability with Apigee

Transforming Chile’s health sector with connectivity

The Chilean Health Ministry faced a major interoperability challenge across 1,400 connected health facilities and 1,000 remote sites, where systems could not easily share patient records or data. Earlier attempts to centralize medical records were too costly and inflexible, making it difficult for providers to access information quickly and support services like telemedicine.

Working with Apigee and Google Cloud, the Chilean Health Ministry implemented a national API-based architecture to connect data, applications, and services more securely and consistently. Apigee provided API management capabilities that accelerated the program, helping reduce costs, eliminate delays, and cut duplicate tests, while also enabling telemedicine, patient portals, electronic records, and better population health monitoring across Chile.
