Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), one of Malaysia’s largest investment institutions, needed a faster, self-service way for unit holders to access account services and avoid long queues at branches and agent banks. To support its digital investment channels, PNB adopted Apigee, Google Cloud’s API management platform, to manage the APIs behind its new mobile and kiosk experiences.
With Apigee, PNB migrated its retail core system to a cloud-based infrastructure and launched a web portal and self-service kiosks that let 14 million unit holders check balances, reinvest, update personal details, and view statements. The result has been approximately RM2 billion in annual investments through digital channels, about 5% of yearly investments, while key API integrations can now be consumed in under three months at minimal cost.
