Magazine Luiza, a Brazilian retail and e-commerce company, faced growing pressure to modernize its mobile commerce platform, improve scalability, and speed up API and app development while relying on a legacy backend. To address these challenges, it adopted Apigee alongside Firebase and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to better support its expanding digital business.
Apigee helped Magazine Luiza decouple backend systems from the front end, enabling faster app iteration, better visibility, and smoother API management at scale. With Apigee and GCP, the company migrated 113 apps in under 60 days before Black Friday, handled dramatically higher API traffic, and delivered its biggest Black Friday ever; its marketplace now supports more than 3,300 sellers and 4.3 million SKUs, while physical store sales grew 25.8% in 2018.
