How Dutch telco KPN is making new connections with APIs

KPN, the 130-year-old Dutch telecommunications company, wanted to expand beyond traditional telecom services and create new digital products through APIs. To do that, KPN built its API Store on the Apigee API management platform, making APIs available to B2B customers, prospects, and ecosystem partners while maintaining strong security and usability standards.

With Apigee, KPN launched a developer portal and standardized how APIs are discovered, tested, registered, supported, and billed. The solution helped KPN speed time to market, broaden its target market, and open new revenue streams; one healthcare video-consultation app managed through the store has already been rolled out to 12 hospitals in the Netherlands.
