A Apica Case Study
The Swedish Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) needed to ensure its SAMÖ2008 exercise website could handle an expected peak of thousands of simultaneous users. Working with Apica, SEMA designed production load tests simulating 1,000–10,000 concurrent users to answer whether the site could support ~5,000 logged-in participants and to identify server- and application-level bottlenecks.
Initial tests showed the site handled about 4,000 concurrent users but suffered long response times. After reducing landing-page object size and, critically, adding a front-end cache (CDN-style) to offload static traffic, response times improved and capacity was validated. The engagement demonstrated that targeted load testing of the production environment is essential to pinpoint limits and guide effective scaling measures.
