Swedavia - Customer Case Study

Swedavia, Sweden’s largest airport operator with 11 airports and 2,500 employees, faced a sudden, massive surge in web traffic during the Icelandic ash cloud as travelers, media and the public sought urgent travel updates. The event created a real-time stress test that threatened site outages and slow response times at the moment information was most critical.

Swedavia used Apica WebOverload™, a cloud-based service built on Citrix NetScaler, to switch delivery to a high‑capacity network and apply caching, dynamic traffic management, queueing/offload pages and global load balancing. The service—tested for extreme peaks—kept arlanda.se, swedavia.se and brommaairport.se online and responsive throughout the crisis without requiring new hardware.
