Case Study: Gulf News achieves improved web performance and increased peak load capacity with Apica

A Apica Case Study

Preview of the Gulf News Case Study

Optimizing Web Performance for the Atex/Polopoly platform

Gulf News, the UAE’s largest English-language newspaper with about 1.5 million monthly unique users, runs its site on the Atex/Polopoly CMS and faces the typical challenges of a content-rich, geographically distributed audience—varying bandwidths, devices and heavy publishing loads that can degrade Web Performance. To avoid service impacts at go-live and understand true response times and concurrency limits, Gulf News engaged Apica for a comprehensive performance review and testing program.

Apica leveraged its Polopoly expertise to establish a performance baseline, carry out targeted tuning, and verify peak-load capacity and stability. Tests included cache and HTTP-acceleration configurations and bandwidth reassessments; the work significantly reduced response times, increased maximum concurrent capacity, exposed and helped resolve bottlenecks, and produced concrete performance targets for ongoing operations.
