Costain’s A30 upgrade drives planning from the ground up

Costain was tasked with a significant upgrade of an 11km stretch of the A30 road in Cornwall, a project requiring extensive earthworks and new structures. The challenge was to manage this complex infrastructure project with daily, accurate planning updates directly from the site teams to avoid compounding delays and to keep the entire delivery team aligned.

To address this, Costain implemented Aphex's planning software, specifically leveraging Aphex Field. This solution enabled foremen and site teams to capture daily activity updates directly on iPads, feeding real-time data into the short-term schedule. Using Aphex, Construction Director Lee Piper could immediately identify where activities were failing due to weather, resources, or design, allowing the team to mitigate issues and prevent future delays, ensuring the project stayed on track.
