Voyage, a robotaxi operator focused on serving retirement communities, faced the challenge of building a modern, safe, and scalable autonomous driving architecture that could run multiple concurrent AI workloads on high‑performance onboard computers while meeting automotive safety requirements. To meet this challenge Voyage partnered with Apex.AI and adopted Apex.OS as the real‑time framework to connect sensors, AI perception, prediction, planning and control in a production system.

Apex.AI implemented Apex.OS — a ROS 2‑based, safety‑certified real‑time framework with development tools and guidelines — and provided engineering and safety expertise so Voyage could concentrate on algorithmic and AI features. The result: a third‑generation production‑ready robotaxi launched in 2020, achieving production quality in two years while cutting costs by half, enabling a clear path to ASIL‑D safety certification and contributing to Voyage’s subsequent acquisition by Cruise.
