A next generation app with a world-first fan experience, for a new global sports league

SailGP, the new global sailing championship founded in 2018, needed a breakthrough second-screen mobile experience that could match the innovation of its F50 race boats and help build a global audience from the first race. Working with Apadmi, the team set out to create a world-first app that could appeal to both expert sailing fans and newcomers, while handling real-time race data, multiple live video streams, and varied viewing needs across live, TV, and online audiences.

Apadmi delivered the SailGP App, a highly customizable experience built around more than 1,200 live data points, three viewing modes, and eight live-streamed feeds. The app enabled low-latency on-site viewing, region-specific broadcast restrictions, and tailored dashboards for different fan types. It launched in time for the first race in 2019 and reached 20,000 downloads by the second race, with SailGP later winning multiple innovation awards for the app.
