A Apache Airflow Case Study

Onefootball - Customer Case Study

Onefootball, a platform with millions of daily active users, faced common data engineering challenges such as managing lengthy crontabs, numerous custom API clients, eroding confidence in analytics, and operational fragility. These issues were compounded by the constant emergence of new data tools, making integration management costly and brittle for their small team.

By implementing Apache Airflow, Onefootball migrated its pipelines from crontabs using the DAG paradigm. Apache Airflow’s community hooks and operators allowed them to remove and refactor code, while its alerts and web UI restored confidence in their analytics. As a result, within about 100 days, the team was efficiently managing their data engineering complexity with 17 DAGs, contributing to the open-source project, and developing custom internal operators.
