Logistics preparedness for disaster response in indonesia

The Logistics Institute - Asia Pacific (TLI-AP), a leading research institute in the region, was engaged by a major humanitarian organization to design a prepositioning network of relief supplies to strengthen Indonesia’s disaster preparedness. Confronted with Indonesia’s extreme seismic and tsunami exposure, poor logistics infrastructure in remote islands, and the requirement to site one emergency response facility on each of the six main islands (with no facility capacity limits), TLI-AP needed a robust, data-driven way to select locations and configure flows to minimize response time and risk exposure.

TLI-AP adopted the anyLogistix platform to model, optimize, and simulate the supply network: after an initial operations-research filter to nine candidate nodes, anyLogistix network optimization selected the optimal six sites and configured flows, then simulation stress tests validated performance across 11 large-scale, 98 small/medium, and 34 at‑risk scenarios. Using anyLogistix, the solution delivered a decision‑support framework for stockpile prepositioning and achieved an average transportation time to affected zones of 0.5 days and a 28% reduction in transportation cost versus the baseline, with no loss of service level.
