Research of Traffic Flow in the Transport Hub of Volokolamskaya in Moscow

ITS Consulting faced heavy congestion around the Volokolamskaya transport hub in Moscow, where growing peak-hour traffic was expected to worsen significantly by 2025. The firm used AnyLogic simulation software, including the AnyLogic Road Traffic library, to assess how the planned roadway network would perform under future demand.

AnyLogic helped ITS Consulting build a detailed traffic simulation model covering cars, buses, taxis, junctions, crossings, and parking access. The analysis identified two major bottlenecks and showed queues could grow to 140 vehicles without changes. By testing signal timing, adding lanes, and redesigning parking access, AnyLogic helped improve the plan so road capacity more than doubled and queue lengths fell to manageable levels, supporting approval of the reconstruction project.
