Highly Automated Production Line Planning and Optimization

Centrotherm Photovoltaics AG, a global supplier of technology and equipment for the photovoltaics, semiconductor, and microelectronics industries, needed to plan a highly automated production line and determine the right equipment, layout, and operating settings to meet capacity goals. The company also wanted to identify bottlenecks, assess operator behavior, and evaluate the effects of maintenance, breakdowns, scrap, and downtime. AnyLogic simulation software was used by ACP-IT consultants to analyze these manufacturing optimization challenges.

Using AnyLogic Professional, the consultants built reusable simulation libraries to model equipment, material handling, personnel, and production control systems, then tested multiple layout and process scenarios using real data from Excel and Access files. The AnyLogic-based model helped Centrotherm Photovoltaics AG improve production line design and select the best option for throughput, reliability, and scrap rate at low cost, and the final model was handed over as a long-term decision-support tool for future factory analysis.
