Container Terminal Throughput Evaluation with AnyLogic

Evans & Peck worked to help port authorities maximise container (TEU) throughput while minimising rehandling, focusing on the challenge of finding the optimal stack configuration for berth operations. Using AnyLogic, they built a discrete event simulation model to evaluate how stack height and layout affect performance without relying on costly terminal upgrades.

AnyLogic enabled Evans & Peck to track individual containers and analyse the trade-off between higher TEU throughput and increased rehandling. The model measured berth utilisation and staddle carrier fleet utilisation, providing a decision tool that could be applied to different container terminal configurations and supporting more efficient operational planning.
