Choosing the Right Warehouse Layout for a Leading FMCG Retailer

Leading FMCG Retailer, a major FMCG retailer in Eastern Europe serving several hundred stores through a single distribution center, needed to redesign its pallet rack and conveyor layout and assess whether the new setup would meet capacity and service goals. To do this, the company worked with AnyLogic to build a detailed warehouse simulation model that could evaluate warehouse effectiveness before making physical changes.

AnyLogic simulated the center’s key processes, from loading and unloading to storage, picking, packaging, and pallet sorting, using staffing, scheduling, timing, and breakdown data. The model helped the retailer test different layout and load scenarios, analyze the link between labor, equipment, and capacity, and support operational staffing decisions; it is also used for employee training.
