Planning Green Hydrogen Production and Transportation

GHD, a global professional services firm, needed to evaluate the feasibility of a green hydrogen production plant and supply chain despite major uncertainty around costs, logistics, risks, and long-term economics. To tackle this challenge, GHD used AnyLogic for green hydrogen supply chain simulation, combining engineering design with dynamic modeling to assess both technical and financial viability.

Using AnyLogic’s Fluid Library and Python integration, GHD modeled production, compression, ammonia synthesis, transport options, storage, and cashflow metrics such as NPVs, ROIs, and levelized costs. The result was a transparent, scenario-based decision tool that helped identify bottlenecks, compare technologies and transport methods, estimate storage needs, and link engineering choices to business outcomes for better planning and investment decisions.
