Case Study: DHL Supply Chain achieves optimized sorting system planning with AnyLogic

A AnyLogic Case Study

Preview of the DHL Supply Chain Case Study

Simulation Model of the Sorting System for a Warehouse

DHL Supply Chain needed a way to evaluate a new box sorting system for a larger-volume facility and determine whether it could handle peak-day demand, as well as identify the best operating settings. The project used AnyLogic, specifically the AnyLogic Material Handling Library, to model the sorting process with historical arrival data and key parameters such as recirculation capacity and sorter flush time.

AnyLogic enabled DHL Supply Chain to run sensitivity analyses across multiple scenarios and compare performance outcomes before implementation. The simulation showed sorting performance ranging from about 96.8% to 99.01% of cases handled depending on the scenario, and the results were shared with management and operations as a reference for future planning.
