Inventory Management and Optimization for an FMCG Manufacturing Company

ITC Infotech, an international technology services provider, was helping a global FMCG manufacturer solve an inventory management challenge for limited shelf-life food products. Using AnyLogic, the team set out to determine the optimal production quantity, replenishment policy, and shelf-life norms needed to balance high fill rate with low product deterioration.

ITC Infotech built a simulation-based optimization model in AnyLogic to test different scenarios across a multi-echelon supply chain. The model identified the best shelf-life factor and production frequency for each replenishment policy, helping maximize fill rate while minimizing quality loss; the results also showed the tradeoff between service level and deterioration, with output from 100 model runs used to select the optimum policy.
