Container Yard Planning and Management System Built with AnyLogic Simulation

Novorossiysk Sea Port needed to expand its trading terminal toward a capacity of 1.2 million tons per year, but faced the challenge of choosing the best approach to new construction versus modernization and improving pre-design planning. To support this, Morstroytechnologiya worked with AnyLogic using simulation modeling to replace limited analytical methods and better account for ship schedules, equipment failures, weather delays, and terminal logistics.

Using the AnyLogic simulation environment, the team modeled terminal elements, cargo flows, storage layouts, and transport schedules to test different operating scenarios. The results helped identify weaknesses in the existing layout, including the “dipping” container effect in multi-tier storage, clarify key technical parameters, and define better storage-height and logistics algorithms. AnyLogic-enabled simulation improved decision-making for terminal configuration and supported a plan to increase throughput, turnover, and service quality.
