Using Pedestrian Library to Create a New Look for an Art Gallery

Fair Dynamics, a Milan-based consulting company, needed to design The Ametria project at Athens’ Benaki Museum: a maze-like contemporary art exhibition where visitors’ movement, satisfaction, and access to artworks could be carefully shaped. Using AnyLogic simulation modeling and the Pedestrian Library, the team had to test layouts that balanced hidden artworks, crowd density, visitor pathways, and overall engagement.

AnyLogic implemented an agent-based pedestrian model that simulated visitor behavior, moods, groups, fatigue, and artwork interactions, while also providing a user-friendly interface and density maps. The solution helped Fair Dynamics identify crowding hotspots, compare exhibition layouts, estimate how many visitors could attend safely, and generate detailed statistics on paths, time spent, and artworks observed.
