Load and Haul Optimization for Largest European Potash Producer

Amalgama worked with a large European potash producer facing complex load-and-haul planning challenges in a massive underground mine, where managers needed to forecast production, test mine plans, justify fleet needs, and evaluate operational changes. Using AnyLogic software, Amalgama helped build a detailed simulation model of the mine’s drilling, hauling, conveyor, and hoisting processes to replace unrealistic assumptions with data-driven analysis.

With AnyLogic, Amalgama simulated scenarios for adding Mobile Ore Loaders, removing bottlenecks, and determining which borer could be eliminated with the least impact. The analysis identified a removal option that cut production by only 1.02% while significantly reducing OPEX, allowing the producer to maintain output and lower operating costs; the simulator is now used for monthly planning, bottleneck detection, and evaluating proposed changes.
