GE Electric Vehicle Transportation and Charging Network Analysis

GE Global Research (GEGR), the R&D arm of GE, needed a way to understand how electric vehicle adoption and charging demand might evolve as the EV market was still emerging. To tackle this challenge, GE turned to AnyLogic simulation software to analyze EV transportation and charging networks, including questions about adoption curves, electricity distribution impacts, infrastructure growth, and new business models.

AnyLogic helped GEGR build two prototype models: a granular EV adoption model and a charging network simulation. Using agent-based modeling, GIS mapping, and AnyLogic’s visualization and Java-based rule logic, the team tested charger locations, network designs, and driver behavior across New York State. The results provided actionable insights for manufacturers, operators, store owners, and city planners, helping estimate ROI, charger utilization, and EV adoption rates over time.
