YPF, Argentina’s largest oil and gas company, was struggling with costly oil well maintenance downtime and equipment breakdowns caused by a decentralized, inefficient scheduling process. Multiple planners were assigning hundreds of work orders without coordination, leading to suboptimal schedules, poor resource utilization, and significant production losses. AnyLogic enabled Simcastia to build a simulation-based optimization tool for YPF’s Rincón de los Sauces oil field, modeling work orders, crews, equipment, and costs to generate better maintenance schedules. The solution improved work order execution by 11%, raised preventive maintenance fulfillment to 95% in six months, cut corrective maintenance backlog by 56%, reduced unplanned downtime losses by 50%, and delivered $18M in annual savings.
