Developing a Project Management Digital Twin for a Gas Turbine Manufacturer

Goldratt Research Labs helped a major turbine manufacturer facing delays across a portfolio of 100+ programs and thousands of projects, where traditional planning could no longer reliably predict lead times, profitability, or delivery commitments. The customer needed a better way to understand the impact of backlog, multitasking, and resource constraints, and turned to Goldratt Research Labs with AnyLogic-based simulation support to evaluate options.

Using AnyLogic, Goldratt Research Labs built a self-configurable project management digital twin to test traditional practices versus Theory of Constraints and Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) rules, including different WIP control strategies. The simulation showed the company would likely be more than two years late and lose $181 million under the current approach, while project-level WIP control could improve outcomes to a net profit of $104 million, even with the portfolio finishing nine months later.
