Pet Food Production Optimization Using Manufacturing Process Simulation Software

Perfection Pet Foods, a U.S. manufacturer of extruded ultra-premium pet food for dogs and cats, was facing rapid demand growth and shifting product mix that left its production line unbalanced, congested, and wasteful. To address these challenges, the company worked with ITE Consult using AnyLogic process simulation software to analyze and optimize production scheduling and bottlenecks.

Using AnyLogic’s manufacturing simulation, Fluid Library, agent-based modeling, and OptQuest optimizer, the team built a model of extrusion, storage, and packing constraints and tested scheduling strategies. The solution produced a detailed optimized weekly schedule, reduced waste by 90%, increased production rate, and eliminated bottlenecks across the process; Perfection Pet Foods now uses the AnyLogic model regularly for production planning.
