Creating Optimal Store Layouts and Improving Labor Scheduling

Domino’s needed a data-driven way to design new store layouts and labor schedules as it expanded rapidly, because traditional planning methods couldn’t capture staff workflows, equipment placement, or peak-hour bottlenecks. Using AnyLogic simulation software, the company built digital replicas of stores to test different layouts, process flows, and staffing approaches before rolling them out in real life.

AnyLogic helped Domino’s identify a more efficient store design, including square floor plans and a triangular layout for the makeline, oven, and cold room. The simulation also showed the ideal staffing level was 6–7 drivers per shift, and optimized layouts improved dispatch times by 4.5%, reducing congestion and the number of steps staff needed to take.
