A AnyLogic Case Study
Noorjax Consulting used AnyLogic simulation software to tackle a challenge for building managers: how to encourage people in commercial and educational buildings to conserve energy and influence others to do the same. The project focused on a university building and explored how social and behavioral factors, along with incentives, could shape energy-saving habits such as turning off lights, using stairs, and limiting air-conditioning.
Using AnyLogic, Noorjax Consulting built an agent-based model connected to a Python predictive model to simulate how education, recognition, and other interventions would change behavior over time. The result was a 6–8% reduction in energy use from education and influence alone, with the potential for similar gains from monetary rewards or discounts. AnyLogic also helped show a secondary benefit: more stair use could improve visitor health.
