Productivity Improvement of Mining Haulage System with Simulation

SPb-Giproshaht, a consulting company serving the mining industry, needed a way to optimize haulage routing and improve mining process planning for Medvezhy Ruchey and the Zapolyarny mine. The challenge was to evaluate transport network capacity, determine the right equipment mix, and confirm that production targets could be met in increasingly deep and complex mining operations.

Using AnyLogic mine modeling software, SPb-Giproshaht built separate simulation models for the open pit and underground mines with agent-based and discrete event approaches. The models helped calculate traffic flows, prevent congestion, confirm that all rock mass could be transported, and more accurately size the dump truck fleet; in the underground mine, AnyLogic also helped plan equipment needs across years, including increases of two trucks in 2018-2030 and 2033-2047, and one truck in 2031, 2032, and 2048.
