Walmart wanted to automate online grocery fulfillment with Alert Innovation’s Alphabot® but needed to prove the robotic system could handle high demand efficiently and cost-effectively. Traditional spreadsheet analysis couldn’t capture the complexity and variability of the proposed store-level automation, so Walmart turned to AnyLogic-based simulation for a more reliable feasibility assessment.

Using AnyLogic, MOSIMTEC built a dynamic material handling simulation of Alphabot®’s 3D robotics, storage zones, and control logic so Walmart could test configurations before deployment. The model showed Alphabot® could fulfill 95% of orders in under 8 minutes, with an average of under 5 minutes, helped optimize bot and racking layouts, validated ROI, and supported Walmart’s proof-of-concept pilot launch in Salem, NH in 2019.
