Enhancing Energy Efficiency at GSK with Predictive Analytics in Manufacturing

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) faced difficulty forecasting energy consumption at its Irvine manufacturing site because production schedules and machine usage fluctuated, making it hard to understand the financial and environmental impact of planning decisions. GSK worked with AnyLogic, using AnyLogic simulation software alongside machine-learning-based predictive analytics, to build a decision-support tool for energy efficiency in manufacturing.

AnyLogic helped GSK and Decision Lab create a hybrid model that linked production plans to electricity and steam forecasts, tested renewable energy scenarios, and ran “what-if” analyses for failures and disruptions. The result was improved energy forecasting, optimized production plans and renewable energy use, reduced costs and emissions, and greater resilience to unexpected failures.
