Case Study: ALAN Analytics achieves culturally attuned misinformation modeling with AnyLogic

A AnyLogic Case Study

Preview of the ALAN Analytics Case Study

Reducing the Misinformation Effect by using AI Systems and Computer Simulation

ALAN Analytics needed a way to collect and analyze large volumes of online and survey data about COVID-19 misinformation and emotional contagion, especially on Twitter. Using AnyLogic and a data pipeline that combined behavioral, psychological, and digital inputs, they aimed to help policymakers understand how misinformation spread and influenced behavior during the pandemic.

AnyLogic helped ALAN Analytics build a psychologically realistic multi-agent simulation model that integrated survey data, Twitter analysis, and semantic networks. The result showed that misinformation responses vary by region and culture, with Scandinavia requiring different approaches than other parts of the world, highlighting that there is no single global solution and that counter-misinformation campaigns must be culturally specific.
