Assessing Moscow Metro Station Blueprint with Crowd Simulation Software

Moscow Subway Station, specifically the Kiyevskaya metro hub, needed a way to test renovation plans and passenger-flow changes without disrupting service. The station’s engineers worked with AnyLogic pedestrian modeling software to study crowd dynamics, escalator operations, and evacuation scenarios so they could verify that redesign options would meet safety and ridership requirements.

AnyLogic helped the consultants build and calibrate a detailed simulation model based on on-site observations, then compare layout options and operating scenarios for the station antechambers and escalators. The result was a set of models and recommendations that improved station-operation planning, identified congestion risks with three escalators during rush hours, and supported guidance for using the fifth escalator during reconstruction.
