ATOM Digital Twin of Siemens Gas Turbine Fleet Operations

Siemens faced major challenges managing production and maintenance for its newly acquired aero-derivative gas turbine fleet, as its Excel-based tools could not handle the growing data volume or clearly reveal bottlenecks and investment trade-offs. To address this, Siemens worked with AnyLogic and decisionLab to build ATOM, a digital twin simulation model for fleet operations and maintenance planning.

Using AnyLogic, the team integrated customer operations, maintenance facilities, engine characteristics, and global supply-chain logistics into a single model. AnyLogic enabled KPI forecasting, “what-if” scenario testing, and bottleneck identification, improving decision-making across management and analysts. The result was a user-friendly system that visualized operations, supported investment decisions, and provided a strong foundation for future cloud deployment and reinforcement learning.
