A AnyLogic Case Study
Amalgama, a world’s second-largest nickel producer, needed a way to support mid-term and day-to-day mining planning with simulation that could handle complex stope operations, changing mine layouts, and difficult trade-offs such as blast-hole depth. The challenge was maintaining accurate data and updating plans often enough to avoid skipped blasts and production losses, using AnyLogic as the simulation platform.
Amalgama implemented a domain-specific mining simulation tool built with AnyLogic, combining an interactive mine-planning UI, data imports from ERP/EAM/GIS systems, dynamic simulation, and reporting dashboards. The solution helped planners optimize blast depth, weekly scheduling, and underground transport routing, improving throughput and stabilizing ore flow to the processing plant while enabling more efficient decision-making for daily operations and ROI analysis.
