An Example of a Digital Twin for a Metro with Crowd Management Technology

STAM, an engineering and technology consulting company in Genoa, Italy, faced growing congestion, safety concerns, and operational inefficiencies at one of the city’s main metro stations. To address these challenges, STAM turned to AnyLogic simulation software to build a digital twin with crowd management technology for real-time passenger flow analysis and predictive planning.

Using AnyLogic, STAM implemented a highly detailed 2D/3D model connected to live sensor and camera data via WebSocket and AnyLogic Cloud APIs. The solution exposed passenger density, congestion hotspots, and key operational metrics, enabling dynamic service adaptation, better scheduling, and timely corrective actions. The project delivered improved operational efficiency, a better passenger experience, and more responsive metro operations.
