Construction Simulation Model Tackling Increased Constraints on a Complex Earthmoving Project

Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), a major construction firm, faced a severe challenge on a 4-million m³ earthmoving project when new restrictions cut truck speeds and capacities, limited access points and trips, and reduced operations from two shifts to one. These changes made manual impact analysis impractical and put both the schedule and budget at risk, so CCC turned to AnyLogic and its construction simulation software.

AnyLogic, implemented by CCT International, was used to build an updated earthworks model and a truck-route simulator to estimate route speeds, test multiple scenarios, and evaluate mitigation options. The simulation showed the project duration would rise by 50% under the new constraints, supported a two-shift recovery plan, and helped CCC secure a revised schedule that avoided an 18% cost overrun and supported a successful time extension claim.
