Load and Haul Optimization in a Generic Mining Simulation Model

Komatsu’s Modular Mining team, part of Komatsu Mining Technology Solutions, wanted to optimize complex load-and-haul operations and improve visibility into its mining simulation processes. Working with AnyLogic and SimWell, they used AnyLogic simulation software to build a generic mining model that could import mine data, test operating rules, and help analyze truck, shovel, road, dump, and crusher activity.

AnyLogic’s solution delivered clear KPIs, fast what-if testing of dispatch and intersection rules, reusable models across multiple mines, and visual playback for easier debugging. The team also extended the model to evaluate battery electric trucks, which showed positive early results, and to support their internal simulator, helping identify abnormal behavior and creating a stronger foundation for further optimization and routing improvements.
