Improving the Planning for Surgery in the Real World through Simulation

TCC-CASEMIX Limited needed a more reliable way to improve operating room efficiency and surgery planning, since traditional discrete-event simulations relied on too many assumptions and did not reflect real-life conditions well. Using AnyLogic and AnyLogic Cloud, the team built a highly configurable healthcare simulation model to test surgery parameters, patient risk levels, and operating room constraints.

AnyLogic’s multimethod simulation, combined with TCC-CASEMIX’s optimization logic and database integration, enabled users to experiment with scenarios directly in a browser and without expert support. The results were significant: one scenario increased completed surgeries from 82 to 204 in four weeks, and another showed that three patients could be scheduled instead of one after a cancellation, helping managers make more confident, KPI-driven decisions.
