A AnyLogic Case Study
Terminal San Giorgio, the Genoa-based container terminal operator, wanted to reorganize its yard to boost throughput and improve safety, but couldn’t test layout or operating changes directly in the live terminal. To support this, AnyLogic was used by MEVB Consulting to create a digital twin and simulation testbed for container yard planning.
AnyLogic’s solution combined material handling simulation, agent-based modeling, real tracking data, and AI optimization with Microsoft Project Bonsai. The result was a model of 20,000+ moving objects, real-time evacuation planning with dynamic path recalculation, and safer testing of emergency procedures before implementation. AnyLogic also helped improve terminal throughput by 20% through AI-driven truck allocation.
