Transport Planning Simulation Tool for Suburban Public Transportation Scheduling

Focus Group Company’s consultants faced a regional transport planning challenge in the Russian Central Federal District, where unprofitable suburban rail route cuts threatened local mobility and economic conditions. Working with AnyLogic transportation optimization software, they needed a decision-support tool to model passenger flows, test alternative bus routes, and estimate the financial impact of route changes.

Using AnyLogic’s agent-based simulation, GIS mapping, and Excel/database integration, the team built a transport and logistics model that could run what-if scenarios and compare route options. The project produced six alternative bus routes, four of which were found to be commercially unfeasible, helping Focus Group Company provide informed recommendations. The model was delivered as a standalone application that can be reused and adapted for other regions.
