How the North-Rhine Westphalia Police Keeps Citizens Safe with Mobile Policing

The North‑Rhine Westphalia Police, Germany’s largest force with over 50,000 officers, needed a faster, more accurate and secure way to collect and transmit sensitive field data — identifying people, property and vehicles while reducing time spent on administrative tasks. After evaluating options, they chose Anyline’s mobile policing solution (on‑device OCR mobile scanning) to provide a versatile, easy‑to‑use tool that integrates with existing systems and runs on officers’ smartphones.

Anyline implemented a mobile OCR scanning solution that lets officers instantly capture IDs, driver’s licenses, passports, German national ID cards, license plates and serial numbers. Launched in 2019 and rolled out to 22,000 devices, the Anyline system substantially sped up data capture, was rapidly adopted with minimal training, reduced officer risk in the field, and — per project lead Thomas Roosen — eliminated transmission errors (error rate reduced to zero).
