Discount Tire Launches Tire Inspection Mobile Computing Solution with Anyline and Zebra Technologies

Discount Tire, the world’s largest independent tire and wheel retailer, wanted to modernize a paper-based, manual tire inspection process in which technicians recorded DOT numbers by hand and measured tread in 12 spots. To automate inspections and improve customer experience, Discount Tire partnered with Anyline (working alongside Zebra Technologies) to deploy a mobile inspection solution using Anyline’s DOT scanner/scan software integrated on a Zebra TC75x mobile computer with a laser-based tread depth reader.

Anyline developed a computer-vision DOT scanner trained on thousands of tire images to capture the 17 black DOT digits faster and more accurately than the human eye, and combined it with Zebra’s tread reader to let technicians swipe and scan each tire in under five seconds. The Anyline-powered solution reduced inspection time and wait times, enabled touchless service, eliminated paper-based workflows by integrating with Discount Tire’s systems, and improved accuracy and customer confidence in safety recommendations.
